(Jefferson City, MO.) The Missouri state budget could turn out somewhat better than anticipated. Missouri legislators went back to work last week in Jefferson City with a focus on finishing the document which has to be on the Governor's desk by May 8th. State Representative, Dale Wright, says legislators were expecting around 1 billion dollars, or more, to be cut but now anticipated new growth funds are helping curb the shortfall.
According to Wright they were able to fully fund K - 12 education in the budget. Wright also says, with time at a premium, legislators anticipate any bills that are discussed could wind up as part of an omnibus bill. Omnibus bills usually wind up getting extra legislation tacked onto an original bill in order to get as much work done as possible before a session ends.
