(St. Francois County, MO) When the state's roads are covered with ice and snow officials with the Missouri Department of Transportation have a priority list of which roads are cleared first. An Area Engineer for MODOT, Brian Okenfuss, says they want to do an efficient job to keep the most drivers on the highways safely. To accomplish this Okenfuss says they have three levels of concern.
According to Okenfuss the third level areas are cleared during regular business hours. Okenfuss also reminds you to take advantage of the department's Traveler Information map. It can give you up to the minute road conditions during any kind of weather and is especially useful during times when road conditions can be dangerous.
