Parson Appoints Romine to Tax Commission

(Jefferson City, Mo) - Governor Mike Parson appointed State Senator Gary Romine to the State Tax Commission on Monday.  In a news release by the Governor's office, the appointment was made Monday.

Romine is expected to appear before the Senate Committee on Gubernatorial Appointments on Wednesday, and the whole Senate would vote on his appointment on Thursday.  The governor's office says if he is confirmed, he would step down from this Senate seat that same day following the confirmation vote.

At this time it is not known if Governor Parson will call for a special election to replace Romine.  State Senate District 3 encompasses Reynolds, Iron, Washington, St Francois, Ste Genevieve, and the southern portion of Jefferson counties.

The State Tax Commission is an administrative agency under the direction of three commissioners who are appointed by the Governor and approved by the Senate. The Commission is given the responsibility of ensuring the uniform and equitable assessment of all taxable tangible property in the state. To assist the Commission in fulfilling this responsibility, there is a staff of appraisers, technicians, and hearing officers located in Jefferson City and throughout the state.
