(Bonne Terre, MO) There could be more interest soon in the investigation into the Friday, October 13th, 1989, beating death of Jimmie Wade Martin in Bonne Terre. Sources tell KFMO B104 News there may be new evidence in the case. KFMO B104 News has reached out to law enforcement officials, and others for more information.
B104.3 has been told a meeting will be held next week between the investigating entities, including representatives of the Bonne Terre Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, St. Francois County Prosecutor's office, and others. Some of Martin's family members, as well as local businessman Chris Hulsey, are also set to be at the meeting. Hulsey, who is a cousin of Martin's, helped produce a podcast called Small Town Forgotten that addresses Martin's murder. The podcast can be found at smalltownforgotten.com.
Records indicate charges of murder in the second degree were dropped a few days before the trial of the original suspect in the case, David Bryan White of Potosi, due to a lack of evidence.
White turned himself over to authorities after Martin's body was found bleeding on a sidewalk in Bonne Terre and his death was announced. White told police in an interview he was walking past the Last Chance Saloon in Bonne Terre the night of the murder when he tried to help break up a fight.
According to White three men began to chase him and he was forced to defend himself against their attack. Sometime during the incident Martin was struck several times in the head with a blunt object and died of the wounds. Stay tuned to KFMO B104.3 for more information on the case.
