Washington County Health Department Easter Request

(Potosi, MO.) While some counties say they are fine with drive-up Easter church services this weekend, one area county is putting that idea in the "do not do" category.  Washington County's Health Department issued a release on their Facebook page Wednesday evening asking that all residents stay at home and not even participate in drive up services within the county for Easter.  Some churches have been holding services in their parking lots where all those in attendance stay in their vehicles and practice social distancing measures.  It was an idea that was even encouraged by neighboring St Francois County earlier this week. But officials in Washington county are saying no to that idea. The statement reads in part: "Although Easter Sunday is approaching, Washington County Health Department is recommending that churches do not meet in person or in gatherings on parking lots or other areas. This agency recommends streaming on-line services or using other social media resources as your source of worship. Residents are asked to observe the stay at home order issued until the order ends the night of April 24th, 2020. We understand this is a sacrifice for everyone, including the staff here at the health department. We know celebrating faith and the Easter holiday is important, especially during these challenging times. It is so important to commit to staying home – even on religious holidays – so we will be able to slow the spread of COVID-19. "
